The Naturist Talks: Shanna, Tony and daughters from the USA

As you may have read in the very first post of this blog, one of the main reasons why we started this project is to show the world that naturists are not some strange dark commune but that actually everyone could be one… Or could enjoy being one if they took the first step.

Our main example of “everyone” is of course ourselves, we write posts about naturism in general but also about our own experiences. But some of you might be thinking “Yes sure, those two are probably just the strange kids in the block…” (nah, we know you’re not thinking that about us, but we’re trying to write an introduction here). So we decided to let other naturists have a word as well.

So please sit back and get inspired!

Meanwhile we already published several interviews with people from all over the world. You can find them in the The Naturist Talks section.
Today we’ll be talking with a family from the USA. Shanna is 43 years young, her husband is 45 and their 2 daughters are 13 and 14. Shanna will tell us about their experiences with naturism.

Hello Shanna, tell us something about yourself
We live in the San Francisco Bay Area. My husband and I have been married for 20 years after we met in college. We have two daughters. I’m a high school teacher and my husband owns a business. We love living on our ranch, the San Francisco Giants, hiking, surfing, nude beaches and nude vacations. Our daughters are already the third generation nudists in our family.

How and at what age did you become a naturist?
I am youngest of four. My parents were nudists and we were frequently nude around our home growing up so I guess you can say for me it has always been the most normal thing in the world.

How do you experience naturism?
We frequently visit local nude beaches and resorts and we also enjoy being nude at home.

We hate to divide people into groups, but we’ll do it anyway…
Do you consider yourself a naturist, a nudist or an occasional nudist?
We are all nudists. We enjoy living nude as much as possible. It feels amazing and very liberating. We are almost always nude at home, except when our girls have friends over. And we love nude vacations. We enjoy nude gardening, boating, swimming, horseback riding, camping, hiking, reading, landscaping and so on.

Do you find it easy to make naturist friends?
I can only say: Birds of a feather… (comes from the saying “birds of a feather flock together” which means that like minded people will search for each other)

What’s the best tip you have for beginning naturists?
Be happy!

Anything else you’d like to share with our audience?
We enjoy health and fitness. We are light drinkers, non smokers, and not advocates of drug use, of any kind. We are smooth nudists and encourage others to embrace a nude and smooth lifestyle.

Thank you so much for your participation Shanna!

  1. Its good to read about others who enjoy life nude whenever possible, we agree that it feels both amazing and liberating to live this way. We also find that like-minded people are fairly easy to meet. We visit the same places and many are very approachable, genuine nudists are often the friendliest and most open of people.

No need to encourage us to adopt the nude and smooth lifestyle, we love being that extra bit nuder that being smooth makes us feel. We’ve both been smooth for many years, when it was far less common, its good to see more and more nudists embracing life as naked as possible at the places we visit.

Like Shanna, Louise grew up in a nudist family, she’s third generation. Nik had to wait until his teens to discover nudism, he’s still trying to catch her up on the amount of life spent the best way, nude!

  2. I am not sure what a “smooth lifestyle” means. Above you write, “the nude and smooth lifestyle, we love being that extra bit nuder that being smooth makes us feel.” Based on the phrase “extra bit nuder,” you might mean, clean shaven genital area. If so, I understand and agree completely. I just am not sure as you say “smooth lifestyle.” Thanks … smoother and nuder here!

    • We meant that as we enjoy the nudist lifestyle (for us that is being naked wherever and whenever we can be – at home, at clubs and spas, outside at the beach, hiking, on our own and socially etc), we enjoy it that bit more by keeping our whole bodies smooth. So perhaps we should have said ‘the smooth nudist lifestyle’.

  3. Thanks for sharing your nude and smooth lifestyle experiences.

I’ve been a smooth nudist for nearly 30 years, so I can relate to being smooth before it was common. When I started being smooth shortly after getting into social nudism by visiting nude beaches, I was a little concerned if there would be negative reactions to my smoothness. Never a word. And as you point out, it became more common as time went on.

My example of living nude and smooth rubbed off onto the woman I subsequently married. She may not be as nude as often as I am at home, but she is completely comfortable with a clothing optional home.

  4. Thanks for sharing. I am from the Bay area living in south of France. I have vacation rentals (2) that I would like to have nudists visit. My wife isn’t a nudist (although I try) Should your family enjoy France visit us there is lots to see and explore here in the Dordogne.

  5. I have been smooth for a long time but not nude. I would like to change that though. I think being nude and smooth together would be spectacular wonderful and freeing.
