BHH Naturist Resort in Fuerteventura, Spain: Review

There are places we seem to keep ending up almost every year, and others that we keep failing to check off our bucket list. For the longest time, BHH Naturist Resort was in the latter category. We had heard about the place from the day their doors opened to the naked public, but somehow we never ended up there. Fuerteventura just doesn’t seem to be often on our route.

But that’s history, finally we got to meet the owner Karie and her lovely resort in real life. Finally, we walked through those doors we had seen in the pictures, and the first thing we thought was: “This place is larger than we expected”.

How to get to BHH Naturist Resort

Tucked away in the outskirts of the popular tourist town of Costa Calma on Fuerteventura’s southern coast, BHH Naturist Resort is about an hour’s drive (65 km) from Fuerteventura Airport. There are direct flights to most major European airports as well as to a bunch of the smaller ones.

We definitely recommend renting a car to properly explore the island’s many stunning beaches and landscapes. But if having to drive isn’t your idea of an ideal vacation, there are lots of taxis available from the airport. The town centre of Costa Calma is just a twenty-minute walk from the resort, giving you easy access to shops, restaurants and markets.

Accommodations at BHH Naturist Resort

The accommodation options at BHH brought smiles to our faces before we even unpacked. Each apartment is playfully named to match the naturist theme: Au Naturel, Naturist, Buff, and Bare.

We stayed in “Naturist” on the ground floor, which gave us plenty of room with two bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a comfortable living area and a clean bathroom. Throughout the apartment, we kept discovering little naturist-themed decorative touches that added personality and humour to our stay.

“Au Naturel,” the other ground-floor apartment, has similar amenities but with just one bedroom. The basement-level “Buff” and “Bare” apartments offer the same essentials in a slightly smaller space, with the added bonus of extra privacy.

The bed configuration is optional, you can choose between a double bed or two singles, making it perfect for friends travelling together or solo travellers. Speaking of which, singles are genuinely welcome here. But the reason why we appreciated this the most is that two single beds together make a much larger sleeping space than the average Spanish double bed.

Additional and brand new are the two “Nests”, these eco-friendly pods appear compact from the outside but feel surprisingly spacious within. Each includes a comfortable bed, kitchenette, sitting area, storage space, and private bathroom. The best part? Your own private jacuzzi to enjoy under the stars.

Facilities at BHH Naturist Resort

The heart of BHH is the swimming pool, surrounded by sun terraces that offer plenty of options for sunbathing. The spacious feeling we noticed when we arrived comes from the low boundary walls, which create a sense of openness while still maintaining privacy from the outside world.

You can choose your perfect lounging spot, traditional sunbeds, squishy bean bags for ultimate comfort, or shaded corners when you’re skin starts turning a slightly shade of pink (or rather approaching lobster style, there were quite a few British guests when we were here).

The communal areas become natural gathering points where we found ourselves sharing drinks with other guests, and making connections felt surprisingly easy. Yet whenever we wanted solitude, there were plenty of quiet corners to claim as our own.

Throughout our stay, we kept noticing those funny naturist-themed decorations that add character to the resort. They might be a bit cheeky, but they constantly remind you that this is a place where being clothes-free is not just allowed but celebrated.

Around BHH Naturist Resort

One major advantage of BHH’s location is its proximity to some truly magnificent nude beaches. It’s possible to walk to the stunning Playa Esmeralda with its turquoise waters and fine sand, or even further to the impressive Playa de Sotavento.

If you have a car, we highly recommend heading even further south along the coast to the peaceful Playa Mal Nombre, and beautiful Playa Butihonda, which rival some Caribbean beaches we’ve visited. Each has its own distinct character, but all offer that liberating experience of swimming and sunbathing without constraints.

Costa Calma town itself provides all the amenities you might need, supermarkets, restaurants serving everything from local Canarian specialities to international favourites, and markets where you can browse for souvenirs.

For the more adventurous, Fuerteventura offers excellent conditions for wind and kite surfing (the island’s name literally means “strong winds”). History has shown over and over again that we’re not made for such sports, but watching the colourful kites dancing across the water was definitely a spectacular sight.

A safer way to explore the island’s dramatic landscapes is by hiking. Karie, the owner, can share some insider knowledge about routes where hiking in the nude can easily be done without encountering too many others, and we can definitely recommend a naked stroll along the coast anywhere between roughly Costa Calma and Morro Jable.

Guests at BHH Naturist Resort

During our stay, we met all the other guests, which is a perk of staying in a place this size. What everyone seemed to share was an appreciation for the intimate atmosphere that only a small resort can provide.

BHH seems to attract people who value authentic connections over non-stop entertainment, those who understand that luxury can be found in simplicity and space to breathe. For first-timers, BHH is also an ideal introduction to clothes-free vacationing.

When to visit BHH Naturist Resort

Fuerteventura enjoys mild temperatures year-round, making it an anytime destination. Summer (June-September) brings consistent warmth (24-28°C) and more visitors, while spring and fall offer pleasant temperatures with fewer crowds. But the very high season is during the winter when you get sunny days and a comfortable +20°C during daytime, though evenings might require a light cover-up. The island’s famous winds often come unexpectedly, so don’t let them surprise you.

Your questions answered

During our stay, we asked on Instagram what you wanted to know about BHH Naturist Resort. Here are the most common questions answered:

Is there a sauna, steam room or pool?

You obviously can’t expect a long range of amenities in a resort with just 6 accommodations. So, no sauna or steam room. But there is a very nice pool.

What is the distance to the beach?

Costa Calma beach is about a 15-minute walk away, but unfortunately, this is one of the very few beaches on the island where nudity isn’t very common. There are some nice beach bars and restaurants there, though. The closest nude beach is probably Playa Esmeralda, which is about 4 kilometres away.

Is it gay friendly?

BHH Naturist resort is everybody-friendly, no matter your gender, preference for partner, or marital status. Someone also asked if it’s barefoot-friendly, and yes, we haven’t been wearing shoes at the resort either.

Is it only nudist or clothing-optional?

Technically, it’s a naturist resort, so according to the etiquette, you are expected to be nude when the weather allows it. But if you have a partner who prefers not to go nude, we don’t think that this would be a huge problem.

Can you try naturism here for the first time?

Definitely, because of the small size, we think this is a great place to try naturism for the first time.

Is it easy to get to from the US?

Coming from the US, you will likely have a layover in Madrid or another major European airport.
